From red-light districts to our own turf, human-trafficking exists and is happening everywhere.
Human-trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery where people profit from the control and exploitation of others.
Imagine being stripped of an identity, forced to do some type of labor without any way to return home.’
This goes on in 85% of the nations around the world today.
Including our nation.
There are about 60,100 people enslaved in some way, including human-trafficking, in the United States today.
Not only is that an eye-opening statistic, but the fact that it is all around, happening on our homeland is heartbreaking.
Why should this matter to us or to anyone?
Human-trafficking exists in Virginia and it could affect absolutely anyone, anywhere.
Regardless of age, race, class, ethnicity, or gender.
It could be you.
So it is our job as humans to bring awareness and to be educated, as well as educate others on this matter.
We need to prevent it from rapidly increasing, rescue those who are trapped and to eventually end all forms of slavery in our lifetime.
Today, there is a coalition of organizations, called the End It Movement, in the fight for freedom. Through this, people ‘shine a light on slavery’ by drawing a red x on their hands. This tells the world that slavery still exists and that they are in it to end it.
