Trojans receive Optimist scholarship
On April 13, 2015, the Optimist Club competition was held at Moffett Memorial Church. The club is an organization that works to express the importance of community service and maintaining a positive attitude.
Students from various schools gathered to share their speeches and compete for scholarships. Each student was required to prepare a four to five minute long speech “about how your optimism will help you press on to great things in the future,” commented junior Cassidy Bowles.
Junior Trey Dallas stated, “I used my writing knowledge obtained in Mrs. Nester’s amazing English class.”
All of the students presented their speeches to an audience that withheld three unknown judges. The purpose of the mysterious judging was to be sure to push the students to connect with the entire audience.
Tunstall had three students to place and receive scholarship money. Trey Dallas received fifth place, winning $1000, along with Cassidy Bowles, who came in fourth place and received the same amount in awards. Senior Kaitlyn Aaron received first place with a $3000 scholarship.
“It was amazing and so overwhelming. I was so shocked. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it. It’s such a blessing and will definitely help me as I head into this next step,” said Aaron.
