Supporting the 2015 Autism Walk
Even through the early morning drizzle, Trojans came out to support the community at the fourth annual Dan River Autism Walk that took place on April 25, 2015, at Anglers Park. The awareness campaign included over 1,000 participates, all who volunteered or walked the 5k. The walk was hosted during autism awareness month and aimed to support those who are affected by autism.
In addition to attending the walk, Interact Club officers made tee-shirts and posters to support Team AJ after his recent win of Prom King. “We thought it would be a good thing for our Interact officers to do together and a great way to visualize our support for AJ,” said senior Kaitlyn Aaron.
“It’s always a blast,” said senior Payton Loy, who has participated in the event two years now.
“I had a really good time cheering people on. Seeing the autistic kids trying to do the walk on their own and seeing the smiles on their faces and knowing I helped them brought joy to me,” commented senior Star Grenade, who volunteered for the 5k.
The total amount raised, which will be donated to the Autism Education Fund, will be posted at http://danriverautism5k.org/ by the end of the week.
