“Snowcation” brings calendar changes
Through the dates of January 21 to January 28 Pittsylvania County Schools were closed due tosnow. This snow has effected the Pittsylvania County Schools calendar in more ways than students may realize.
Schools were informed by Teresa Patty, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, about the adjustments to the school calendars. Pittsylvania County Schools will have to make up two of the five missed snow days.
Thursday, January 21, the first day students missed, will be made up on Friday, February 19. Originally February 18 was going to be an early dismissal and the end of a six weeks. Now, it is a full day, but February 19 will the the end of the marking period.
Also, Friday, January 22 will be made up on Friday, May 20. Before May 19 was supposed to be a one o’clock dismissal and the last day of school. Now will be the last day of school and exams the May 20.
However, the other three days that were missed were banked days, meaning they will not be made up. Pittsylvania County has six other banked days as well. The large amount of banked days is due to the fact that the county has added on extra time to the school day in both the morning and afternoon.
The change in schedule will not effect the Saturday, May 21 graduation date.
