Prom 2016: ‘A little party never killed nobody’
April 11, 2016
Prom was held April 9, 2016, and it was a definite success and with 358 tickets sold, the Trojans made prom history for the largest attendance in recent history. “The biggest reason it was a success was because everybody said that Tunstall was so well mannered and everyone was dressed appropriately,” said prom coordinator Emily Potts.
Students, like boats against the current, were borne back ceaselessly into the past with the theme of “All That Jazz.” Sports coats, feathered headbands, and sequins were worn in reflection of the roaring 20’s. Opposite from years past, many females presented themselves in black dresses, while the males wore fancy, colored jackets, straying from the usual black on white suits.
Junior Jacob Lee strutted into the Club in a mint green sports jacket with alumni Heather Johnston on his arm and a cane in the other hand, determined to fully live out the theme. Feathered or pearl headbands were also frequently seen on the dance floor. Senior Cassady Davis commented, “F. Scott Fitzgerald is my favorite author so I wanted to dress for the theme.”
However, the fashion trends of 2016 still made their way to the Danville Golf Club; Jack Rogers, two piece dresses, fake nails, and Converse with dress pants, all attended the party as well. With the chilly weather and 15-25 mile per hour winds, jackets, shawls, and even a few fur coats made their way into the ballroom, but nothing was going to stop the Trojans from having an amazing night. Senior Harley Spencer said, “[My night] went good. The weather made it stressful because it was cold but all in all, it went well.”
With the low temperatures, the opening ceremony of Senior Walk was held indoors. Seniors and their dates were escorted from the main hall and out into the enthusiastic, but crowded audience. Royalty were announced just moments later, with King and Queen going to Meghan Blair and Christopher Shomali. Prince and Princess were also crowned, Madison Howell and Luke Buckner taking on their titles before the DJ took over.
The lights went down and the music began to blare and Trojans had the option to dance the night away, play cards in the casino rooms, or nibble on finger foods provided down the hall. Courtesy of the Danville Golf Club, a specialty punch, tea, and lemonade was provided for party-goers. Students also had the option of taking pictures in a photo booth with crazy props or have professional portraits done with Jamie McBride Photography. At the end of night, the remaining Trojans filed out at eleven. “Overall, I think it went very well, everyone seemed to have fun,” commented Potts.
