And so it begins…
August 29, 2016
The first day of school kicked off on Wednesday, Aug. 10. With a total of 972 students, various changes have been implemented. Each grade was made aware of these new rules during class meetings, but they can also be found in the front of the handbook.
Prior to entering the THS doors, student drivers will notice piles of dirt and bulldozers near the football field. This is because the upper parking lot is being extended. When the addition is complete, there will be at least 50 new parking spots available for purchase.
Speaking of arriving to school, the tardy bell now rings at 8:17, which is two minutes earlier than last year.
Walking down the halls, one may notice a dress code change, as well. Students are no longer allowed to wear jeans with any type of holes. In the past, holes were allowed if a material was worn underneath to cover the skin. However, this school year strictly prohibits the trend.
The varsity football team has seen a change in wardrobe, too. They have received updated jerseys, which will be shown off under the Friday night lights.
In addition to new uniforms, the school year has brought about fresh faces including ten staff members, two foreign exchange students, and 238 freshmen.
Lastly, a behavior matrix has been introduced. It is known as P.R.I.D.E. The acronym stands for the following: preparedness, respect, integrity, dignity, and effort. The five letters and meanings can be found hanging in teachers’ classrooms and on the hall televisions.
The hope is by putting these qualities into practice, students will be able to have a successful and productive year.
