JV and Varsity huddle up for a pep talk.

After many open gyms, weightlifting, and camps, volleyball season is officially here. To recap last season, the Lady Trojans won 11 out of 21 games. This year, Coach Beard hopes to do much more. He expects his team to advance past Regional play.

After having six players graduate last year, he filled in their spots with two new freshmen, two sophomores, and two juniors. Coach Beard is very pleased with his team, along with the returning players from last year.

Molly Hughes, one of the captains for this volleyball season, is also pleased.

“Our goal for this season is to go a lot further in the upcoming conference tournament than in previous years,” said Hughes. She mentioned that she is looking forward to playing their biggest rivals: Dan River, Patrick County, and Hidden Valley.

So far the girls volleyball team is 2-1 with their only loss coming from Patrick County falling 3-1. They have already played Dan River and Chatham and won both games 3-2, 3-1, respectively.

The Lady Trojans will play first home game is against Dan River on Sept. 1.
