Ordering class rings through Herff Jones
Throughout the years, high school students have purchased class rings. Whether it be a family tradition to do so or simply just a desire for a tangible memory, choosing the right ring is a major decision.
On Thursday, Sept. 15, the junior class packed in the cafeteria to be presented with ring options from Herff Jones.
Herff Jones is a jewelry company that has been in business over 100 years; 25 of those have been involved with Trojans. They not only specialize in high school and college rings, but have designed larger-scale rings for world championship athletes and NASCAR drivers.
Whereas in older generations all students purchased similar rings, many choices are available today that allow buyers to create unique rings. There are seven different types offered including Century, Princess, Crestline, Alliance, All-Star, Lapetite, and Extreme.
The Century collection is targeted at guys and is the most popular. This style looks like a traditional class ring and has Tunstall High School written around the square or oval gem. There is a jumbo version of this called the Extreme. The Princess looks the same except it is slightly smaller and made for ladies.
The Crestline, Alliance, All-Star, and Lapetite collection have nontraditional aspects. These options have different bands and shapes that set them apart from others and lean toward a more contemporary look.
After deciding on a ring, students can choose the metal, gemstone color, cut, symbol, and what they want engraved on it. Initials, names, signatures, or mascots can be engraved. On the sides, anything from sports to religious symbols are available.
The prices vary with the lowest basic ring (different from the 7 mentioned) starting at $90 and increasing into the hundreds. There is a lifetime guarantee on all of their items and the company will replace students’ rings if they switch schools or graduate in a different year.
Herff Jones will be returning to THS next week for placing orders. On Wednesday, Sept. 21, there will be a family night in the main lobby from 3:15-6:30 offered for parents and children. The representatives will also be available during all three lunches on the same day and on Sept. 22.
Students who attended the meeting were given a catalog, order form, and pricing sheet to take home and bring back if they plan to purchase a ring. Those interested can also visit www.herffjones.com.
