Sports recap for the week of 9/19-9/23

Cross Country

In the girls division, Tunstall placed first as a team with seven girls finishing in the top 15. They defeated Nelson County,Chatham, Dan River, Gretna, Appomattox and Galileo. Emily Wallace lead the Lady Trojans by finishing second overall. Ali Hill, Gwen Kallam, Tyler Goad, Hannah Hale, Jessica Durand and Lia Haskins performed well also.

In the boys division, they placed fifth overall as a team. Luke Vest finished eighth while Zach Gray finished 13th. Adien Bork, Allen Ford, Justin McCune, Patrick Hooker, Jonathan Yoder and Jacob Motley performed well in the rain filled race.

Volleyball

The Lady Trojans opened up their week at home last Monday night against the Gretna Hawks and swept them three sets to zero. Molly Hughes lead the team with nine kills and two blocks. Tessa Kaesmeyer had seven kills and 10 points and Grey Capozzoli had five kills and 11 points. Zoey White had 24 assists and Saige Johnson had nine digs

The JV team also swept the Comets, this time two sets to zero. Leading the way for the Lady Trojans were Mandi Blair, Kayle DeVivi, Lauren Van Allen, Kinsley Stevens and Leah Crampton.

Tuesday night, the Lady Trojans traveled to Martinsville to face the Bulldogs and swept them three sets to zero. Hughes led the team with five kills while Kaesmeyer and Capozzoli had three kills. White and Cathryn Estes led the team with nine points and Capozzoli followed up with eight points. Caitlyn Turner had seven points while Cassidy Scarce had six. Turner and White also had eight assists.

The JV team swept the Hawks in straight sets. Leading for the lady Trojans were Crampton, Van Allen, Alice Merricks, Aleise Thornton and Kerrigan Cornell.

Thursday night, the Lady Trojans extended their shutout streak to three games; defeating the George Washington Eagles three games to zero. Leading the Lady Trojans in kills was Scarce with seven kills. Kaesmeyer, Estes and Capozzoli each had five kills. White lead the team with 12 points and 18 assists. Capozzoli and Madison Marlow both had eight points. Turner had seven assists and Taylor Ellis had five digs

JV also swept the Eagles two games to zero. Blair lead the team with five kills and Thornton followed up with three kills. Cornell lead with five assists and Hearp had three

Golf

The golf team played its final district match at the Forest Park Golf Course in Martinsville against Patrick County, Magna Vista and Martinsville. They also placed first as a team. Will Davis lead the Trojans with a score of 82. Justin Fuller followed with a score of 84 while Lane Pritchett had a score of 87. Garrett Van Allen shot a 90. Davis placed second individually while Fuller placed third.
