Wallace sprints to her finish line
October 28, 2016
“Suck it up kiddo, it’s going to be hard.”
This is what Emily Wallace heard her father say after her first practice.
Starting in 7th grade, Wallace began her cross country career. Running cross country and track, Wallace is a highly dedicated athlete.
It all started when she ran her first community 5K.
“When I finished, I had so much adrenaline that it made me want to do another one,” said Wallace.
“Running for me is a major stress reliever.”
Wallace’s father, Michael is her biggest fan thus far.
“He supports my desire to run, he pushes me to do better,” she said.
To prepare for a run, Wallace has to hydrate and carb up. She listens to music and prays and never runs without her special necklace.
“When I have it on, I feel like I can do anything, I’m invincible; I never run without it.”
Wallace never planned on running competitively, it was a spur-of-the moment type of thing.
“Now, it’s something long term, it’s my niche,” said Wallace. Wallace describes herself as determined, competitive, an encourager, and an overall team player.
“I’m always competitive, whether its in gym class, or just having fun, I feel too competitive at times; I feel as if i have to prove myself.”
Not only has Wallace found comfort in her sport, but she confides with her fellow teammates, as well.
“They’re amazing, we all inspire each other to do our very best,” said Wallace, “I couldn’t ask for a better group of people.”
Aside from cross country and track, Wallace enjoys fishing and watching her fraternal twin sister, Abby, play softball.
