Soyars expresses himself through music
In the span of two years, sophomore Allen Soyars sparked an interest in guitar, learned how to play, and became the bass guitar player of the band Endorphin, which is gaining local popularity.
The band has written nine original songs, one titled “Bad Blood,” which is Soyar’s favorite. “To be honest, we’re not entirely sure what genre we fit into. I guess our main influence is alternative rock, so we get the inspiration from ourselves.”
The main thing that got Soyars interested in making music was listening to music itself. He said, “I listen to just about anything. My favorites are: The Who, Phish, The Grateful Dead, and the Smashing Pumpkins.”
The other members of Endorphin include junior Dylan Fox, who initially asked Soyars to join the band, along with Skyler Tuggle, Taj Quinn, and Josh Francisco. After joining, Soyars remembers his favorite memory being the first time he played on stage with his band mates. “It felt like I had finally done something for myself,” he said.
Soyars said, regarding Endorphin’s future, “We plan to continue making music that we enjoy and [to] enjoy making it. We also plan on finishing recording our five song EP sometime soon.”
With his main motive being to better himself, Soyars plans to continue his education past high school, but is unsure of the exact details regarding his future. “I hope to continue my music career as I further my education as well,” said Soyars.
Through the first two years of his high school career, he has taken courses to prepare him for the years to come. “My favorite subject is history because I think it’s interesting to learn about the interactions groups of people had in the past and how they effect the world today,” said Soyars. With history being his favorite subject, Soyars is also an active member of the history SCAEL team. His academics and community involvement have also earned him a spot as a member of the BETA club.
For the time being, Soyars plans to keep working hard in school and to keep his passion: creating and playing music with his band.
