Coming together for a local charity

Students exemplify the motto of “give, advocate, volunteer.”

United Way of Danville and Pittsylvania County works to impact the community in various ways.

By donating money and items, the United Way is able to use what they have been given to help in the areas of education, health, and financial aid.

For education, they help through mentoring and holding after school programs such as those found at the YMCA.

Patient aid programs, healthcare access, and emergency responses are a few of the ways health is supported by United Way.

For the past few weeks, THS students were in a race the to raise the most money for United Way. The top earning homeroom class was promised a Christmas party by librarian Mrs. Linda Yeatts.

Yeatts has been involved with the organization for eight years.

“I just decided to step up to the plate and be the leader,” she said.

The total amount of money raised as a school was announced on Monday morning and added up to be $2,362.68. The winning homeroom contributed $111.41. The grand total was a 13.7% increase from last year’s.
