A Glance at Prom
For years, the great location of prom has been known to be at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research. However, for reasons that have led to controversy, Prom of 2014 is located at Danville Golf Club. Although some traditions, such as parent’s privilege to walk by their child in the Senior Walk, have been eliminated, many contributing factors of this year’s prom secure prom go-ers an exciting and memorable time at prom.
“About this time last year, IALR stopped hosting social functions, including proms. In fact, we were the last to hold our prom there in 2013. Even before last year’s prom, I started scouting out other venues. Because Tunstall has such a large student body, our choices are limited,” said teacher and prom coordinator Emily Potts. “Danville Golf Club hosted another prom shortly after ours last year, and after talking with the club’s manager, I was confident that DGC could accommodate our needs. We signed a contract there before the end of the school year. Then, shortly after the start of this school year, IALR changed their policy, I understand.”
Senior walk is something many parents look forward to throughout their child’s high-school career and cherish forever. Because this year’s venue is a smaller one, parents are unable to be invited to join their student in the Senior Walk due to lessened parking and smaller indoor occupancy.
Although there are a few disappointing changes to some, the shortcomings of this year’s prom are expected to be almost nonexistent. From the plentiful food to the extravagant theme, A Night In Paris, Prom of 2014 is sure to impress.
The food menu of prom this year has not been finalized; however, hopeful suggested choices are as follows: a chocolate fountain with fruit, meatballs, chicken strips, cheese and veggies, and assorted desserts. Having food at prom is a great leap forward. For those who are not able to spend a generous amount of money on a fancy dinner before prom, those worries are forgotten at the Prom of 2014!
While ladies planning to go to prom try on dress after dress, and their lucky dates save up their money for the big night, junior and senior class officers are working thoroughly and diligently to arrange an unforgettable prom. Remembering everyone, putting aside differences, and thinking creatively, prom go-ers should expect refreshing changes and the whimsical outcome of a hard-working team of class officers.
