Wrapping up the wrestling season
On January 24, the wrestling team came in 2nd place at their meet, losing to Dan River 24-51 but crushing Chatham 60-24. This match was also senior night, as well, and seniors Davis Eades, Jonathan Tyler, and Alex Warner were recognized.
“Obviously, we had some adversity tonight [Jan. 24], but we’ll just keep working hard and get ready for the postseason,” said assistant coach Trey Devall.
On January 27, The Trojans placed second at their home tournament, finishing off their regular season with a dual match record of a successful 13-2.
“As a team, I think we’ve had a really good season.
We’ve been wrestling really good, and I think we’ve had a bunch of consistent guys that show out every night,” said junior Clay Hardy.
Individually, junior Dakota Wilson finished off his regular season undefeated with a record of 24-0. Wilson also just received his 100th match win in his high school career during the tournament on January 27. Wilson said he began wrestling when he was younger because someone gave him the idea, saying once he began the sport it “just stuck.”
“The team did quite stupendously this season,” said Eades, “wrestling is art form, not just a sport, and we have a bunch of Picassos on the team.”
On Feb. 3, certain team members will be traveling to Martinsville High School to compete in the Varsity District Tournament. These members include Andrew Farrar, Jhalin Godwin, Dakota Wilson, Chandler Minter, Grayson Hardy, Cade Devivi, Davis Eades, Clay Hardy, Ryan Bartley, Derek Dallas, and Holden Cassada.
The Trojans will be facing teams from Bassett, Franklin County, George Washington, Halifax County, Magna Vista, Martinsville, and Patrick County.
