FFA gives to the community during FFA Week
The week of February 15-22, 2014 was national Future Farmers of America (FFA) Week. To celebrate FFA Week, the club decided to do a little more than just dress up each day.
“The fourth period Ag. class came up with the idea to have a fundraiser,” said senior Eli Goard, president of the FFA. This idea bloomed into an action. The class decided to donate to the Danville homeless shelter, House of Hope.
“Breakfast items was what they needed the most,” said Mr. Robert Gregory, co-sponsor of the FFA. “I just happened to know that they were in great need.”
“I think it was a great idea,” said Goard. “Helping out anyone who needs it is a great thing. Helping anyone who is less fortunate who will try to help themselves but can’t, it’s just the kind thing to do.”
The club collected almost 200 boxes of cereal, with Mrs. Tara Mills’s class collecting the majority of the cereal.
“I think it’s great, and I hope we get a bunch. It’s nice to see students helping other people,” said FFA co-sponsor Mrs. Whitney Terry.
“For the first drive, it was very successful. I think it has room to grow and expand.” said Goard.
Members of the FFA also dressed up to celebrate FFA week. Monday was dress like a farm animal; Tuesday was flannel/lumberjack day; Wednesday was blue and gold day, the colors of FFA; Thursday was western day; and Friday was camouflage/animal print day.
