Tackling Super Bowl Sunday head first
Throughout the years, football fans everywhere have waited all year to see which of their teams will make the final cut. We all seem to recognize what time of year it is by all of the commercials, advertisements on everyday products, and all of the Queso Dip recipes that seem to pop up on Pinterest.
If you’re someone like me, who doesn’t understand the concept of the game itself, you can relate to the feeling of absolute boredom as you watch.
I’ve honestly never understood the idea of grown men in spandex ramming into each other to catch ‘the ole pigskin.” But, now it seems that the Super Bowl has accumulated a major cult following; fans are like psychopaths when it comes to the sport.
The 2018 Super Bowl was the Philadelphia Eagles versus the New England Patriots. The 52nd annual Super Bowl was held on February 4, 2018, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The average ticket price for the Super Bowl was roughly $3,800.
And that is what’s considered a “cheap” seat. That only proves my point about football fans being crazy.
Likewise, football fans go all out to achieve the perfect Super Bowl festivity.
Football fans everywhere spend hours upon hours planning and preparing the perfect foods and decorating their homes to set the mood for the biggest football game of the year.
The 2018 Super Bowl was my first experience watching the Super Bowl in its entirety. As my family jumped up and down as every player sprinted across the field, I sat on my couch absolutely bored out of my mind. It felt like torture sitting there as I listened to the announcer yell terminology I’ve never heard of.
Aside from my suffering, the only part I actually enjoy watching is the halftime show performances. This year, Justin Timberlake performed some of his hit songs including, “Cry Me a River,” “Suit & Tie,” “SexyBack,” “Senorita,” “Mirrors,” and “My Love.” He also performed some of his newer songs such as his 2016 hit, “Can’t Stop The Feeling.”
Although I’m not the biggest Justin Timberlake fan, it was still nice to have a break from the game itself. The halftime show performances are the only real reason I even bother to sit through the game.
Like the 2016 Super Bowl, the band Coldplay was the headliner of the halftime show with a surprise performance by Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Bruno Mars.
That was definitely the highlight of my year.
I know that some are more hardcore football fans than others. Some feel their team winning is like seeing their toddler take its first steps, while others watch for the sole reason of just watching.
All in all, my first Super Bowl experience was what I thought it was going to be: me waiting for the halftime show as I ate buffalo dip and chips, and having my eardrums busted by my fellow family members.
