Jalen Moore commits to VMI gridiron
On Wednesday, Feb. 7, National Signing Day, senior Jalen Moore signed his letter of intent to play football for Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Friends, family, and his coach all gathered around to celebrate the proud moment with him. Signing to play is a major step in Jalen’s career, and he’s ready to tackle it head-on. Jalen will be attending VMI on a full scholarship and plans to study national security.
Varsity football coach, David Potts, has been there to see Jalen grow not only as a player but as a student. “It is a great opportunity for a bright young man with unlimited potential,” Potts said.
Jalen has also taken part in basketball, alongside football. Although he is overwhelmed with excitement about the journey he will take next year, he will definitely miss suiting up for those Friday night lights. With a team that has grown to be a family, he is sad to have to part ways with them, but plans come back to support his home school.
“I will miss the spirit of this school and also the people, the coaches, and mostly my teammates,” Moore stated.
Jalen was very glad that he picked VMI, while other colleges were looking into the offensive lineman as well. “I got some other offers from schools like UVA-Wise and Richmond, but VMI just seemed the best for me and my future after I graduate.”
VMI is a Division I school in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and last year went 0-11. Jalen hopes with the rest of his recruitees to change that around to make a great season next year.
Jalen will gain another great group of players and coaches next year. “I loved the way they recruited me and talked to me and made me feel like I was home.”
“I will try my hardest on and off the field. Many college athletes forget that they are students, but I will definitely do my best to maintain my grades and football.”
It will be very bittersweet for Jalen to move 2 and a half hours away from where he got his start, but he will always carry the memories from high school and thank the Trojans for helping him find his way into the real world.

Congrats on signing with VMI, I’m proud of you, and ima miss them times when we used to roast with each other but there’s still a few more months to go until you graduate. I know you’re proud of yourself I know your parents is proud of you too and hopefully I’ll see you in the NFL soon so you could probably play with the Cleveland browns because they suck right now and they could probably have a better record with you on their team, but anyway, keep up the good work, work hard, and never give up.
